It first started out drawing a bunch of He-Man/She-Ra characters.

Hey, I posted one character from the little side scroller I was helping some buddies out with last year. Thought I'd post a couple other things from that same project.

Here's the kid I posted awhile back, with the modeling turnaround:

And here's some of the concepts leading up to the designs above...the helmet on the third guy down there is what I really wish they'd gone with, but oh, well...

There were plans for one of the enemies to be a former colleague, and here's an initial idea for that:

This is the basic grunt enemy you'd start off fighting. They would have varying degrees of disrepair and damaged limbs:

And finally, here's one of the weapon/power-ups. I wanted the actual power-up to transform into the weapon, and always loved Shirow's pop-out suitcase machine guns from the Ghost in the Shell manga:

Unfortunately, as of right now, this project has been shelved....I do have some additional enemy concepts, and a whole bunch of funny whiteboard design session notes, but I'll wait until the project starts up again to post additional junk.

MEGACON 2010 RECAP!

First show of the year!
Megacon went pretty well this season...we had a table in the independent press section instead of our usual artist's alley spaces.
This year I tabled with Nathan Wiedemer and Steven Mangold, Dan Boyd ,and making his Megacon debut Mike Wagganer!

I completely forgot to take any actual con pictures, but fellow art bud, Josh Smeaton took this handy dandy video!

My Weekend Schedule

So, starting this morning at 9am, here's my tentative schedule for this weekend:

After work, I'll be going to the Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party till at least midnight or so...I'll just bring my lucha mask, since I totally didn't make a costume in time.
Amy made an INCREDIBLY cool Day o' the Dead mask last night, and I'll take some pics of her wearing it tonight. Keep yer eyes peeled on the Twitter/Facebook tonight.

Then, hopefully around 1am-2am, I'll make it over to Acme Comics Superstore up here in Longwood, FL. for 24 Hour Comic Day with about ten other comic buddies.
Might totally puss out and just get some sleep and go in the morning for a 12-16 Hour Comic Day.
I hear tell that Acme is going to have some web-cam action going on, and I'll twitter/facebook out a link for it, as well as doing semi-hourly updates on the comic shenanigans.

I'll be skipping out on an OctoberFest get-together and an art show opening, so I intend to make a cool comic to make up for it.

Asohka Tano

It's Asohka...drawn probably how she "should" be drawn...from the Clone Wars tv show.

I've seen many, many people talk about what a pain she is to draw, and from a design standpoint, she's just a mess.
So, I thought I'd take a stab. Not that I'm an expert or anything, but shit...

The eager padawan of Anakin Skywalker ( I know, I know...from the perspective of the movies, there was no indication that the emo retard could handle anything beyond his own stiff, shit-ass acting with half-assed motivations. But I digress.) is "apparently" a Togrutan, the same race as Shaak Ti...an actually decently designed alien Jedi from the Prequel films.

But, she really has no qualities that make a Togrutan cool....the horns and lekku tentacles are shortened, presumably to show youth, but to me it looked half ass.
So, I lengthened both, and kept her skin colorations and horn/lekku patterning.
Shaak Ti's eyes were all black, with a Karen Traviss book mentioning these folk are like predators on their home planet...I don't give a shit abotu any of that...the all black eyes look awesome. So, I changed them.
Looks to me like they really just wanted a human, but felt they HAD to put an alien in there to seem spacey...but then they didn't commit.

Same with the forehead ornamentation...in the tv show model, what IS that shit? It's just crap up on her head..is it attached? Who knows.
I made it a little more clear on what it's supposed to be. TO be real, I'm just guessing, but shit...anything is better than what they've done in the original model.

The outfit she wears? Seriously. That tube top?
I'll concede the "cute" point and leave her legs unclothed, but she's got to rock more of the robe look.

Now, about her "sassiness". I hate it. It's cloying, annoying, and trite.
Nothing original or anything that challenges the genre.

I had an idea that when she's hanging around Obi-Wan, she's all obedient and respectful, and when she gets Anakin alone, she's a risk-taking wingnut...gives you the impression that Yoda was trying to give the "dark knight" Anakin a "robin"...know what I mean?

But then, when they're back at the base, Obi-Wan has no clue how this little angel has messed up anything. So, you get a little cool interplay between all three main characters.

One could argue that the two sides of Asohka could be confusing to kids, but then, I guess they don't get that our hero is going to be Darth Vader in another year or two in continuity.
Not to mention that my Asohka idea was based on Hannah Montana, and everyone knows little girls hate that shit and wouldn't spend a dime on anything like that, right?

She's a pastiche of a ton of things I really dislike about the current state of Star Wars, but she's kind of cool if you detach her from the crap she's associated with.

Nate Bellgarde had just mentioned on his Twitter that "No matter how burly you make it look, drawing a unicorn still makes you feel kind of weird. And the longer you go without thinking about it before you do, the weirder it is."

Back in college, around 1994, Ed found a really cool robot with removable armor and a gun that folded up into a huge suitcase....always wanted one for myself but the local store had sold out...
So, I coveted.
For years.

A joint here in town happened to have a stack of them...FOR $5 EACH!!!
Needless to say, I've gone bonkers for these guys all over again!

Here in the states, they were known as Power Force (Zero-Section Armed Police).
In Japan, from 1988-1989, they were known as the live action show Cyber Police Cyberbots (Zero-Section Armed Constable)!!

So, a couple folks asked if I had plans on drawing any of the other Evangelion Units, after seeing Unit 01 the other day.

Then I got all thinking that the one I drew wasn't necessarily "exactly" like the Rebirth version, so I made some changes!
Updated the armor with the right coloring, added some junk, and lost the linework...

Here's two little images I drew up a week or so back to make into stickers...like those 'lil Joes.

An old school robot, Tetsujin 28 (or Gigantor) and the new Evangelion Unit-01 (the Rebirth movie paint scheme).
Ha...actually, one could argue that the Eva is now considered old school, too!

Here's a Spider-man I drew for the latest DRAWERGEEKS.

And here's a "spider-man" I'd drawn a month or two back...
I got cracked up thinking about this outfit...imagining some weird eastern bloc immigrant seeing Spider-Man and attempting to approximate the outfit and fight crime himself.
He has no powers...just a yearning for justice and an penchant for trouble.
I was watching too much Indian Superman, Supaidaman, and the Italian Spiderman shorts.

So...I finally ended up going to the local chapter of Dr. Sketchy's...but I've been pretty lazy about scanning in what I'd drawn.
I still can't seem to catch the shading correctly when scanning, but oh well...
